The Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our team. You will lead a team of backend engineers building our suite of mobility products. As the Engineering Manager, you will guide your team to implement company initiatives and be responsible for collaborating with leaders across the Engineering organization to define the roadmap. The Engineering Manager will be expected to engage directly with the technical details of the team's efforts, getting their hands dirty when needed, while also leading the team in a fast-paced, highly distributed environment. The manager will be responsible for ensuring that the team applies the organization’s policies, standards, and procedures to engineering and product development.

Responsibilities

• Lead members of the backend Application Development team and ensure they are aligned with the mission, vision, values and objectives of the company
• Guide the team technically, engaging in troubleshooting, architecture definition, and implementation of best practices
• Collaborate with the leaders across the Engineering organization including Product, Machine Learning, Hardware, and Technical Operations teams to define the roadmap and execute on company priorities
• Develop resourcing plans, coordinate across teams to ensure delivery schedules are aligned and communicated, and drive engineering efforts to completion
• Invest in the career development of the team members, develop future leaders, and create a culture of cohesion and teamwork
• Participate in talent acquisition processes to ensure that we have world class engineers across all skill and experience levels
• Establish metrics to measure the productivity of the Application Development team, hold people accountable and identify people issues early. Identify and implement tools and process improvements to increase developer satisfaction and productivity

Requirements

• MS or BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 6+ years of experience with at least 2+ years of experience leading and managing software engineers
• 4+ years of experience as a hands-on senior, staff or principal engineer before transitioning to managing teams
• Hands-on experience building complex applications using JVM based languages that have gone to production and achieved scale
• Demonstrated project management skills to ensure timely delivery of features, while maintaining high quality products
• Demonstrated track record of developing engineers through various career stages and building high-performance teams.
• Experience implementing agile engineering processes that support the entire software development life cycle, including development and release process improvements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audience
• Previous experience working inside innovative, high-growth environments
• Startup experience while valuable is not required.
• Preferred local to the New York, Santa Monica, or Seattle area. Remote for the right candidate.
