Position Summary
The Principal Data Architect, PostgreSQL DBA serves as an expert in relational database solutions and the software development life cycle, including analysis, design, development, data migration, cost analysis, performance optimization, data security and testing of Cloud and on premise database solutions. This role elicits requirements, evaluates options, provides direction on implementation and operational support. As a senior resource, the PostgreSQL DBA must understand client requirements and how Landis+Gyr data solutions fit into those requirements. The ideal candidate will have previous device/IoT and device data management data solution experience in addition to experience migrating Oracle solutions to PostgresQL.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze functional and market requirements to produce optimized Cloud and on premise PostgreSQL database solutions
Understand, recommend, and optimize solutions to minimize total cost of ownership while meeting market needs
Work with Cloud and System Architects on design and architecture of the overall system, making sure database choices fit the architecture in a performant, cost effective manner
Work closely with the Operations team to handoff and train up on developed data solutions and assist in the resolution of critical Production issues
Work in diverse cross functional development teams including resources both foreign and domestic
Supports and adheres to Company’s core values.
Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned or required.
Supports and adheres to Company’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy.
Represents Company in a positive, professional manner when working with both internal and external customers.

Education And Experience
Required Minimum Level of Education: Bachelors Degree
Required Minimum Years of Experience: 7+ to 10
Desired Education/Experience:
- 7+ years experience as a Database Developer/Architect
- 5+ years experience with PostgreSQL
- 3+ years experience as with Cloud Databases
- Multi-dimensional (diverse) product development experience is a plus
- Google Cloud Platform experience is a plus
- Cloud technologies (preferably GCP’s offerings)
- Hybrid Cloud and On Premise data solutions
- Relational Database solutions including
- PostgreSQL/Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL
- MS SQL Server/CloudSQL for SQL Server
- Oracle
- Spanner
- Database performance tuning, storage optimization and monitoring
- Database platform migration from Oracle to PostgresQL
- Data migration including On Premise to Cloud data migration
- Data security, at rest and in motion
- Multi-tenant data management
- HA and DR strategies
- Experience with Message Busses and data streaming (Kafka)
- Agile methodology
- ML and Cloud Analytics
- Knowledge of the utility industry (Electric, Gas, Water)
- Experience defining and implementing data solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to convey complex topics to management, to customers and to software development teams
- Ability to work in small teams, as well as independently, with minimal supervision
- Ability to create new and maintain existing data dictionaries and database documentation.
- Self-starter, well organized and ability to work following processes and methodologies
