Prestigious Fortune 200 Company is currently seeking a Vice President, Enterprise Architecture and Planning/ Chief Architect that will serve as the organization's senior-most technology architecture and strategy executive and report directly to the company's Chief Technology Officer. Candidate will work in close partnership with corporate and division-level leadership teams to establish a modern enterprise architecture blueprint for the future and help transform the organization to adopt what will be a flexible, microservices-based architecture that will allow Company to more quickly innovate and better serve its customers. This leader will focus on understanding and applying existing, new, and emerging technologies to transform and optimize the business and operating models, and help the organization plan, design, innovate, orchestrate, facilitate, navigate, and operationalize the software enterprise.

This leader must bring strong collaboration and influencing skills, and they must be able to help shape consensus and build buy-in for the enterprise architecture and strategy. This executive will be one of the leading technical voices and continue to advocate for applying innovative technologies and the adopting new processes, methods, and approaches to the way the company approaches technology. By establishing consensus and then converting architectural patterns into code delivered via developer experience, this leader will help enhance controls and consistency across the technology delivery teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete and continue to enhance the enterprise architecture blueprint, defining the critical technology building blocks that will be required to achieve its business goals, building out the relevant reference architectures, and driving adoption.
  • Accelerate the pace of architectural change across the technology portfolio, helping decompose the company's monolithic legacy applications into smaller components and creating a more flexible and modern set of technology platforms.
  • Establish and chair the Enterprise Architecture Review Board, convening stakeholders across business units and functions to ensure that teams are all working towards the same architectural future state and utilizing shared principles.
  • Creates a 2-3-year enterprise architecture road-map or blueprint to implement the enterprise strategy within the technology function.
  • Identifies and prioritizes the most critical future factors to consider in making decisions (e.g., APIs, microservices, public cloud, etc.)
  • Makes plans to address changes or trends in the external landscape (i.e., competitors, clients, and the broader technology ecosystem) that might affect the technology organization or approaches to enterprise architecture.
  • Develops plans that consider the business impact beyond just the corporate enterprise architecture agenda.
  • Identifies all necessary stakeholders across business units and functions and connects with them to gain support or agreement.
  • Negotiates with a genuine give-and-take approach that takes all parties’ perspectives into account.
  • Takes advantage of opportunities to build strategic relationships to achieve a specific architectural or strategic outcome.
  • Engages others in open dialogue and adapts own influence approach to different stakeholders in ways that address their interests or concerns.
  • Anticipates emerging or potential conflicts among all stakeholders and takes steps to preempt them.

Qualifications:

Ten years of enterprise architecture leadership experience

Experience leading enterprise architecture across a portfolio of multiple software platforms/business units.

Enterprise architecture transformation experience

Decomposing legacy applications and adopting modular (API-driven, microservices-based) architectures.

Five years of experience working in a large scale, complex business

Fortune 100 scale or equivalent ($30+ billion revenue) is required.

Experience with modern infrastructure technologies and architectures

Including public cloud, software-defined infrastructure, Docker/containerization, site reliability engineering, etc.

Experience leading teams utilizing agile software development methodologies

Such as DevSecOps, SAFe, Kanban, etc.

Team leadership experience of 80+ person teams

Including full-time, contract, and vendor resources.

Bachelor's degree in STEM field required; master's degree preferred

Concentration in computer science or electrical engineering preferred.
