How You’ll Be Protecting The World
As Engineering Manager at Venafi, you will be part of an extremely motivated, dedicated, and experienced team that protects many of the largest organizations in the world. With your excellent listening skills and your example of confidence without arrogance, you will bring trust to team members and customers alike. As Venafi transitions its on-premise Machine Identity Management products to cloud-based SaaS offerings (aptly named Venafi-as-a-Service or VaaS for short), we are looking for an excellent Engineering Manager to lead and develop the teams that build out the Venafi Developer Hub – a key pillar of the VaaS Product Experience that enables developers in our field staff and customers alike to build and contribute extensions to the VaaS Platform/Products.

In This Role You Will
- Work with our stellar Product Management and Engineering teams to develop and deliver the VaaS Developer Hub and our Open Source Integrations.
- Enable engineering teams to innovate, design, implement and deliver efficiently and collaboratively with high quality.
- Act as the Development Manager and People Manager to engineering team members.
- Contribute to our continual improvement of process, product, people, and culture.
- Display a passion for continuous learning, and for experimenting and applying cutting edge technology, software paradigms and engineering process improvements, while fostering this culture across the team.
- Strive to elevate your team members above yourself by exemplifying the Team Before Self model of our culture.
- BS (CS, CSE, or equivalent) and 4-6 years of experience and 2+ years as a team lead (but not necessarily with direct reports); or
- MS/PhD. (CS, CSE, or equivalent) and 2-4 years of experience and 2+ years as a team lead (but not necessarily with direct reports); or
- 6-8 years of relevant experience and 2+ years as a team lead (but not necessarily with direct reports)
- Product development experience holding a variety of technical leadership roles with emphasis on the following:
- Agile development (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) with continuous integration, delivery and deployment of SaaS services (CI/CD)
- Experience developing on Public-Cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) while utilizing modern technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, Solr, Redis, Cassandra, … )
- Microservices architectures/distributed systems (AWS experience a plus)
- Programming languages such as Java, Golang, Python, C#
- Open-source development on GitHub
- API-first development and solid understanding of API design and implementation strategies (REST, GraphQL)
- Experience with contemporary source code management and development tools – GIT (Bitbucket, GitLab), Maven, Visual Studio Code/IntelliJ/Eclipse, Node Package Manager etc.
- Collaboration with other managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
- Ability to work in a team-driven development environment. Coaching, guiding and enabling team members to work together in a highly collaborative way.
- Experience in collaborating with team members as peers, by adding your voice and experience to that of the team.
- Aptitude in providing general direction to, and review of team members in various functional areas, groups, and/or operations.
- Proficiency in designing and leading the implementation of functional objectives to meet company goals, including the hiring and releasing of team members.
- Desire and experience to foster innovation through all levels of the organization
- A keen aptitude for making our customers successful by delivering high-quality, secure and performant software.
- Previous SaaS-based Security-Product development and delivery experience
- You have a passion for making our customers successful while maintaining a firm vision of the future.
- Strong background not only in technical areas but in working closely with, and developing, team members.
- You are humble enough to know when you are wrong, confident enough to know when you are right, and wise enough to know when to step back and let others shine.
